Origin & history
Developed in England from the 19th century as a retriever for hunters, originally bred from Newfoundland dogs used to haul fishing nets and retrieve waterfowl.
Care
Prone to weight gain, keep an eye on food portions. Needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
Ideal environment
Adaptable to apartment or house life as long as there is enough exercise; loves water.
