Origin & history

Native to the dry desert and scrubland regions of central Australia; bred in terrariums since the 1990s and became popular worldwide for its confiding temperament.

Care

Needs a large terrarium (min. 120x60x60cm) with UVB light and a basking spot up to 40°C. Check claws and skin regularly.

Ideal environment

Needs a dry desert-style terrarium with a temperature gradient, hiding spots, and climbing options. Best kept singly.

Feeding

Omnivorous: insects (crickets, roaches) for juveniles, increasingly more vegetables and leafy greens with age.

Health

Prone to vitamin D3 deficiency and metabolic bone disease without sufficient UVB light. Regular checkups with a reptile-experienced vet are important.
